Kindergarten Music
I will not be working with ECS students this year but here is some information about the Kindergarten music curriculum.
Kindergarten music is all about exploring different aspects of melody, rhythm and harmony. Students will sing, listen, move, and play non-pitched percussion instruments such as hand drums and rhythm sticks while learning French. Lessons are taught in French with French folk song material. Here are some of the big ideas we will be exploring this year in music class:

Here are some of the big ideas we will be exploring this year in music class:
- Music can be louder or softer (dynamics)
- Music can be faster or slower (tempo)
- The size and material of the sound source can affect the quality of the sound produced (timbre)
- Sounds and silences can be longer or shorter
- There is a regularly occurring underlying beat in music
- Some beats have the feeling of stress (accent)
- Some songs are stepping songs (2/4, 4/4) some songs are skipping songs (6/8)
- There are places in the music for taking a breath
- In a song some phrases may be the same, others may be different
- Pitches can move higher or lower or may repeat (melody)
